“Ode to an Artwork” in the Main Gallery and “Entwined” in the Solo Gallery.
For Ode to an Artwork, artists were invited to create work inspired by a poetic theme exploring the lyrical connection between visual art and the written word. The exhibition celebrates the way one creative medium can inspire and give new life to another. With the theme intentionally left open, artists were free to draw inspiration from a favourite lyric, poem, or piece of writing, or to create written work in response to an existing artwork. The result is a rich and engaging “conversation” between art and words.
Entwined by Fiona and Cherie Shadwell — also known as The Weaver Birds — is a mother-and-daughter collaboration from Kyogle. Renowned for their basketwork, and in Fiona’s case, her marbling and dyeing techniques on fabric, paper and even pianola rolls, the exhibition reflects not only their shared craftsmanship but also the weaving together of family, creativity and connection.
