Healthcare Helper Volunteer Program

Northern NSW Local Health District

We’re excited to bring our Healthcare Helper volunteer program to Casino, Kyogle, Bonalbo, Nimbin and Urbenville and we’d love for you to be part of it.

No experience is needed. But a kind heart is! We’ll provide training and support every step of the way.

Why do people choose to become a Healthcare Helper?

Some are retired or studying. Others simply want to give back to their community. Their stories show how rewarding this role can be.

It is a humbling privilege to share time visiting with patients, providing a trusting and confidential space in which they can share their stories,” said Terry, who’s a Healthcare Helper at Grafton Base Hospital.

“During 2014 I was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of multiple myeloma. After four months of chemotherapy then a stem cell transplant, my bloods improved over time and I was saved.

“On my retirement I realised I was saved for a reason, as I understood that my journey provided me with a trusted and empathetic ear when relating with folk who were on their own health journey.”
