Something special is stirring at the edge of Nimbin—the quiet revival of a place that once
pulsed at the centre of village life. The Old Nimbin Butter Factory, long a symbol of industry, creativity, and community, is embarking on a new chapter. Not one driven by commerce or redevelopment—but by community, culture, and care.
At its core, the Nimbin Bush Theatre is now open every Friday night as a space for film, food, and friendly connection. But this is about more than movie nights—it’s about reawakening a precinct that holds deep roots in our shared history.
The Bush Theatre has been transformed into a warm, welcoming lounge-style
space—gentle, inclusive, and inviting. We’re curating meaningful films, sharing short stories on the big screen, and creating opportunities for people to come together in a way that’s been missing from village life.
At a time when many of us are spending more and more time alone, this space offers
something increasingly rare: a chance to belong, to connect, and to share experiences in real time.
This revival is taking place within a broader reimagining of the entire Old Butter Factory
precinct. Along with the theatre, the Nimbin Candle Factory remains a popular attraction for visitors. Meanwhile, the newly opened Wellness Centre—home to Nimbin’s medicinal
marijuana services—has settled into a more peaceful, supportive setting here, away from
the busy main street.
We are also reconsidering the role of the Bush Theatre Café. Although it no longer operates daily, we’re aiming for weekend openings to support events and grow our offerings as demand increases.
And to bring this vision to life, we will need the support of the community. The revival of the Old Butter Factory will only succeed if it becomes a shared effort—driven by those who believe in Nimbin’s creative spirit and want to see it thrive once more.
If you have a personal connection to the Old Nimbin Butter Factory—stories, photographs, memories, or knowledge of its past—we would love to hear from you. Your insights can help inform this next chapter, ensuring that what we build honours what came before.
Let’s revive the Old Butter Factory—not just as a building, but as a vibrant symbol of what
makes Nimbin special. Together, we can bring this vision to life.
