Rock n Roll Photo Art — black and white concert photos of musicians by Linda Bell

Rock stars on the loose! Rock’n’roll legends are hiding in plain sight on the walls of 29 Nimbin shops, cafés and galleries. Walk the photo hunt through the village, scan the QR code at each stop, name the artist, and go in the draw for the free Trail Award. The trail runs until 5pm Sunday 29 November 2026.

What is the Rock’n’Roll Photo Art Trail?

In the early 1980s, Nimbin local Linda Bell photographed musicians in their prime across Europe — on stage, backstage and behind the scenes, for the record companies and the artists themselves. She kept the negatives, and the stories. Forty-odd years later she has printed a selection, and they’re now hanging in shops all over the village.

There are 24 artists pictured across 29 participating venues, most of them along Cullen Street. The trail is run by Rock n Roll Photo Art together with the participating shops, and suits a day trip or a longer stay.

How does it work?
  1. Look for the Rock’n’Roll Photo Art Trail flyer in a shop window. That shop is a stop.
  2. Head inside, find the photo and scan its QR code with your phone. Your first scan opens the Trail App and asks you to register, so you can be contacted if you win.
  3. Choose the artist from the dropdown. Not sure who it is? Ask the shopkeeper, as long as they’re not busy with customers.
  4. Use the trail map to find the next stop, then scan and choose again.
  5. Record at least 12 stops to qualify for the draw. You earn a point for each scan and another for naming the artist correctly, and every stop after 12 adds to your tally.
The Trail Award
  • Free entry. Anyone with their own phone can enter, one entry per phone.
  • Entries close at 5pm Sunday 29 November 2026. Winners are announced after that.
  • Four winners over the course of the year each receive a professionally printed photo of their favourite artist from the Nimbin Trail Collection, and can become guest curators of a special Nimbin Trail MusicTEEZ release.
  • Winners are chosen by qualification and selection. Full rules are in the competition terms in the Trail App.
Where are the stops?

The trail is an easy 15-minute stroll along Cullen Street, with two stops at the Old Butter Factory on Blue Knob Road. Most venues have step-free, street-level access, and the trail guide points to free parking off Sibley Street. Stop numbers match the trail map.

Need a hand, or want to meet Linda?

Having trouble with the app, or found a stop closed or a code that won’t scan? SMS Linda after midday on 0424 792 622 and leave your name. SMS works best, as calls from unknown numbers are filtered. You can also email lindabell@rocknrollphoto.art.

Want to meet the photographer while you’re in Nimbin? Choose Yes under “Meet Linda?” in the Trail App.
