NimBIN Chickens resource recovery and recycling, Nimbin NSW

Monthly resource recovery gathering at Nimbin’s Sustainable Living Hub, 7 Sibley Street. 1st Tuesday of every month.

Get involved

Drop in to NimBIN Chickens to bring along plastic bottle lids, milk bottles, and other hard plastics for processing, see the equipment in action, or find out how to get involved as a volunteer.

We recycle waste materials into useful products.  Our flagship products are recycled benches and chairs, with tables coming soon. Each recycled bench uses 10–20kg of recovered plastic — that’s around 4–6 wheelie bins of milk bottles, or roughly 5,000 bottle lids, diverted from landfill into one piece of functional street art!

About NimBIN Chickens?

A few years ago, 7 Sibley was donated a shredder, an extruder, and an injection moulder — along with around 200kg of plastic bottle lids to get started. Since then we’ve built out the workshop and now have everything needed to turn waste plastic into functional, long-lasting items for the community.

Our approach is resource recovery, not recycling. Traditional recycling ships material back to the same factories that produced it in the first place, burning fuel the whole way. We keep the plastic — and the hydrocarbons in it — right here in Nimbin, turned into stable, useful objects that can be re-melted and remoulded again in future, or even (in proven theory) cracked back down into crude oil with almost zero byproduct.
